Hi Sue – I loved the Small Blue Trilogy and I’m so sad that it’s over, but excited to hear you have a new book coming out! What was the inspiration behind it?
Jade π
Hi Jade,
Thanks for writing, and really pleased to hear that you enjoyed Small Blue Thing.
The inspiration for The Beneath was – as always – my daughter. I love to write things she’ll enjoy reading, and for this one I wanted to explore something dystopian. I also wanted to set it in contemporary London, so I had a character from a different, hidden, world arrive in our London – someone who has never seen a dog or a bus, or eaten a chocolate muffin, and thought about how she might get on. I hope you like it!
Sue
Hi Roxy,
It would be an interesting story, don’t you think? How did they each get there and what did they think when Alex turned up? Hmmm, maybe I should….
Sue

Hi Katy,
It was lovely to meet you all – thank you for being so welcoming! I’m about to write a blog post about the visit. I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying The Beneath – do let me know what you think when you’re finished.
Sue
Hi this is a question leading from my last comment plz reply. Out of all your books including the beneath (which I find fantastic) which one is your favourite and why and which one is your daughter Ellie’s favourite and why ??? Thanks hope u reply x
Ha! I’ve just asked her, and it made her think. She says it would have to be Small Blue Thing, as that was ‘her’ book, but she loves the way the plot unravels in Scattering Like Light and then ties everything together.
Mine? I think it wold be SBT because it was the first, but I also really like the one I’m writing at the moment!
Great question. π
Hi Sue – on Wednesday I read a very short story in Woman’s Weekly: ‘Bare Feet’ and the beauty of the writing has kept coming back to me. so much so, that today I tore the page out and then came to my computer to look up Sue Ransom. I am now presuming it was by you? If it was and most of your writing seems to be for teenagers, I am here to ask you nicely to write a book for adults please! This small story was huge. Like the magician’s small black box which is amazingly turned into a large bouquet of bright flowers. Although I am in my late sixties, I must now go and find your books and remember the teenager I once was.
Don’t forget – a book for adults please!
Best wishes for 2016, Judith
Hi SUE ! I am such a fan of your work ! Especially the small blue thing ! And I’m so sad that it’s over .. But there’s the catch it can’t be over ! My whole life revolvers around that book in the summer and I thought the ending would [ deleted because of spoilers!], but it doesn’t !
Hi sue , I just wanted to say please, please make another book for the small blue thing trilogy .. I know it asked time and it’s a lot to ask but it would be amazing if you did , the books are so amazing and it’s so sad it’s over I am just hanging on to hope that you will make another book or two or even a whole new volume of it ~ Toyin Ajileye
Hi again,
I’ve got no plans right now to write another one, but if I did, it would probably be about the Dirges and how each of the came to be there. That’s the bit that interests me most, not what happens afterwards. Would you like that?
Sue
Hi Toyin,
Sorry, I had to edit your comment because of spoilers. π I’m really pleased you like the books, but unfortunately I’ve got no plans at the moment to write any more in that world. Let me know what you think should happen! Send me an email on the Contact Me page, and you won’t have to worry about the spoilers.
Thanks for writing,
Sue
Hi. Im Nicholet. I loved the the Small Blue Trilogy. I had all the books and lend the fist one to a friend. To my horror she lost the book. My heart is so broken. I want to ask if your new book The beneath will be available in South Africa to buy? Would love to get it but haven’t seen it anywhere here yet. Thanks
Hi Nicholet,
I’m so sorry to hear that your friend lost the book – always a terrible risk when you lend things out. Is there any chance she’ll find it, or is it gone for good?
I don’t know if The Beneath is available in South Africa. Have you tried on line if it isn’t in the shops?
Let me know – and thank you for writing!
Sue
